Professor Njabulo Ndebele (Chair)
Mandela Nominee
Njabulo Ndebele was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. Before that he held high office at the Universities of the North, Witwatersrand, Lesotho and the Western Cape. An award-winning author, he has been the recipient of several honorary doctorates and fellowships. Professor Ndebele has been a founding Trustee of The Mandela Rhodes Foundation since 2003.
Mr Charles Conn
Rhodes Nominee
Charles Conn will become Warden of Rhodes House in July 2013. He studied at Boston University, Harvard Graduate School of Business and Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Mr Conn has been Senior Advisor to the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation since 2001. He also owns an investment company, Redjuice Capital. Prior to this Mr Conn was the CEO of Ticketmaster-Citysearch, having co-founded Citysearch in 1995 and having overseen the merger with Ticketmaster and the company’s public share offering.
Dr John Hood
Rhodes Nominee
John Hood is Chair of the Rhodes Trust. He studied at the University of Auckland and as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. Dr Hood is President and CEO of the Robertson Foundation, a director of BG Group and Chairman of Study Group, Matakina Limited and Urenco Limited. He was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford (2004 - 2009) and Vice Chancellor of the University of Auckland (1999 - 2004). He joined the Board of the MRF in 2012.
Dr Mo Ibrahim
Mandela Nominee
Mo Ibrahim is a global expert in mobile communications with a distinguished academic and business career. More recently, he played a leading advocacy role on African development and governance. Dr Ibrahim founded Celtel International in 1998 and in 2006 he established the Mo Ibrahim Foundation to support good governance and leadership in Africa. He is Founding Chairman of Satya Capital Limited, an African investment fund. Dr Ibrahim joined the Board of the MRF in 2012.
Mr John McCall MacBain
Rhodes Trust Nominee
John McCall MacBain is Founder and President of the McCall MacBain Foundation and Pamoja Capital, and is a Rhodes Scholar. He studied at McGill University, Wadham College, Oxford and Harvard Business School. Mr McCall MacBain is Founder and was the President and CEO of Trader Classified Media. He is Chairman of the European Climate Foundation, and is a Rhodes Trustee. He is also a commercial pilot. He joined the Board of the MRF in 2011.
The Hon Mrs Phumzile
Mlambo-Ngcuka
Mandela Nominee
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka was elected a Member of Parliament in South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994. She held a variety of senior African National Congress and government posts, including that of Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, the first woman to do so. Mrs Mlambo-Ngcuka has been a founding Trustee of The Mandela Rhodes Foundation since 2003.
Justice Yvonne Mokgoro
Mandela Nominee
Yvonne Mokgoro was a long-serving Constitutional Court judge, retiring from the court in 2009. She serves on many boards, University Councils, trusts, and law bodies. She has taught Law at South African, British, American and Dutch universities, and she holds five honorary Professorships. Justice Mokgoro has been a founding Trustee of The Mandela Rhodes Foundation since 2003.
Mr Julian Ogilvie Thompson
Rhodes Trust Nominee
Julian Ogilvie Thompson retired as a Director of De Beers SA. A Rhodes Scholar, he joined Anglo American Corporation and became Chairman of Minorco, of De Beers, of Anglo American Corporation and of Anglo American plc. He was Vice Chairman of the Urban Foundation and Director of the National Business Initiative. He has been a founding Mandela Rhodes Trustee since 2003.
