The Mandela Rhodes Fellowships Program

Whereas the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships constitute a leadership-building intervention for young Africans undertaking tertiary study, the envisaged Mandela Rhodes Fellowships are likely to be aimed at a mid-career grouping: people who have embarked on their careers and are already playing a role in their societies within their chosen fields.

Although detailed planning of the programme has yet to take place, the aim is to offer unique and customised leadership training to this group to allow them to exercise their full potential - to break through to new levels of excellence - and also to become part of a network of principled leaders in Africa.

A 'best practice' audit of leadership training around the world has been completed, and discussions held with leaders in the field. The thinking at this stage is that the programme should be undertaken in partnership with like-minded organisations, which share the aims of The Mandela Rhodes Foundation and have experience in the area of mid-career level leadership training. It is also intended that Mandela Rhodes Fellows in leadership will be able to play a significant role in mentoring the younger grouping of Mandela Rhodes Scholars.
