TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE MANDELA RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMME
The Mandela Rhodes Scholarships enables scholars to study at a suitable South African tertiary institution. The scholarship is awarded for one or two years, currently for an Honors' or Master's degree.
Tuition and accommodation fees are paid direct to the institution involved, while allowances for prescribed books, traveling, living and other expenses are paid direct to the student, unless arranged otherwise.
Any amount of money due to or owed by the student at an institution where she studies, prior to her or him becoming a Mandela Rhodes scholar, shall be the responsibility of the student and the institution concerned.
Scholars - elect shall
- Adhere to the principles and goal of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships Programme
- Undertake and complete all supplementary courses on leadership, reconciliation and entrepreneurship which are offered by the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships Programme
- Actively participate in the mentoring system offered by the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships Programme
- Abide by the terms of payment of fees of the Scholarships Programme
Tenure of
- The Scholarship is dependent upon maintenance of a standard of work and conduct, which in the opinion of the Trustees, justifies the Scholarship
- Other awards in conjunction with Mandela Rhodes Scholarships are not permitted, without consultation with and approval of Mandela Rhodes Foundation Trustees.
WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP COVER?
The scholarship covers:
- All tuition fees and registration
- Accommodation and meals at the highest rate charged by a South African institution where the Scholar is registered.
- Prescribed books and core study expenses, such as photocopying.
- Costs of attending and participating in the supplementary and mentoring courses.
- Basic allowance, as well as economy traveling allowance from the scholar's home to the institution, at the beginning and end of each semester.
- Research and or conference related costs which are directly related to the qualification pursued. A maximum of one local conference per year is provided for. Such costs must be motivated for by the scholar and based on a research proposal; a motivation is required by the relevant authority at the institution. This must be submitted to the Scholarships Manager at the MRF.
