Mr Julian Ogilvie Thompson

Mr Ogilvie Thompson was educated in South Africa and in England, where he attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar in 1953. Mr Ogilvie Thompson became a senior executive in South Africa’s mining industry, joining Anglo American Corporation’s executive in 1971. Over the course of his career he became Chairman of Minorco, De Beers, and of Anglo American Corporation and Anglo American plc. He was Vice Chairman of the Urban Foundation and Director of the National Business Initiative. Mr Ogilvie Thompson has retired from De Beers and Anglo American, and he has been a founding Trustee of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation since 2003.
