Reginald Nyakonda

Zimbabwe & University of Cape Town, 2022

Reginald Nyakonda is an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Cape Town. During his undergraduate career at UCT, he was a departmental class representative and a recipient of the competitive Klaus Jurgen Bathe Leadership Scholarship where his leadership qualities were nurtured.

In addition, he was involved in the Global Citizens Programme where he feels he became more aware of his voice in the world as a change maker. As a future leader, Reginald looks for ways in which he can make a difference in society and the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted one area that needs a lot of work - affordable and equitable healthcare. He wants to combine his childhood dream of being involved in the medical industry with his current undergraduate qualifications and the intrapersonal skills he has acquired throughout his life to help solve the issue of equitable healthcare. His vision is to be involved in research and development of novel medical devices that are effective but most importantly, devices that are accessible to the citizens of his home, Africa.

In his spare time, Reginald enjoys playing rugby and represented his province at under-17 and under-19 levels. He also represented his province in the under-17 Shotput. He also enjoys road trips and photography
