Kabelo Mbuyisa

South Africa & University of the Witwatersrand, 2025

Kabelo Peter Mbuyisa-Seonyane is a dynamic and passionate advocate for the transformative role the amalgamation of education and law has on society. He completed a Bachelor of Education as a triple major graduate with distinction in Biology, Physics and Geography, at the University of Witwatersrand. He then completed an Honours in Education majoring in Curriculum Studies and African Philosophy leading to a ground-breaking Research project in science education titled ‘A critical Analysis of Decolonising discourses in Science Curriculum in South Africa’ which was awarded first class. He will pursue a Masters degree in Education at Wits University focusing on science teacher perceptions and approaches to decolonising science curriculum in South Africa. Kabelo is deeply engaged in academic activism, he thus founded a non-profit organization known as the Pedagogical Science Institute (PSI), a platform with five core pillars being educator development, learner academic support, youth based community engagement, professional and entrepreneurial skills development, lastly, transformative research and innovation. His affiliations show a commitment to dismantling the education embedded lingering effects of historical injustices like apartheid and the importance of active citizenship and leadership in contributing to the country’s effort to advance the social justice and reconciliation project.

Upon completing his Masters, Kabelo sets his sights to completing his PhD in Education at Oxford University and concurrently an LLB degree at University of Cape Town to gain a global perspective of education and attain his specialisation in Law. Being a Mandela Rhodes Scholar is not just an academic accolade for him but will sharpen his skillset as leader and future Curriculum and Education law specialist allowing him to make a significant difference in the African continent at large.
