Mary Silolezya

Zambia & Monash University, 2017

Mary Silolezya Simujayangombe is an educational traveller who is passionate about and has experience in volunteerism in areas of education, youth leadership development, social entrepreneurship and women empowerment, most significantly as a Mentor and Trainer. She worked for 4 years as an Administrative Assistant and Translator in different Chinese Businesses operating in Zambia, this enabled her to travel around provinces in Zambia and also Southern African countries.

In her voluntary capacity, Mary has worked to provide mentorship and facilitate capacity building & skills training for adolescents and youths so as to ensure that they are fully equipped to participate effectively in national agendas. She has volunteered with organisations such as Born & Destined to Reign (Coordinating motivational meetings in schools), Set Apart International (as Training & Leadership Development Coordinator), ActionAid Global Platform Zambia (Receptionist Volunteer), Girl’s Connect Initiative (Leadership Trainer) and Faith Arise Community Centre (Admin Coordinator), and is the only female on the Board of Directors for Humanity Challenge Organisation.

These organisations deal in providing SRHR and MHM education, capacity building & skills training of youths and adolescents in advocacy, activism, civic participation as well as youth & women leadership development, enabling her to interact with hundreds of youths from around the world. Mary has taken part in the Mandela Rhodes Leadership Development programme and the YALI Southern Regional Leadership Online programme specializing in Business and Entrepreneurship Development. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from China Pharmaceutical University (2013), a Master of International Business from Monash University (2019) and a Diploma in Ministerial Studies & Leadership from Rhema Bible Training Centre Zambia (2019). She has also featured in two articles in the first edition magazines of MSA (Inspire Magazine) and MRF (Young African Magazine).

In her capacity as Liaison Officer at Set Apart International, she has the opportunity to participate as an associate trainer in a Global Fund funded project, appropriated by Ministry of Health and Churches Health Association of Zambia, to implement the Adaptive Leadership Approach in achieving a step-change in the health and well-being of Zambian adolescents. As part of the core working group, she is traveling across different districts to facilitate trainings in Adaptive Leadership to different stakeholders providing adolescent reproductive health & rights services. Mary’s daily motivation is to “Be able to inspire, impact and empower an African youth to their full potential”
