Onaopemipo Adeoye
Nigeria & University of Cape Town, 2025 Onaopemipo holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Abuja, Nigeria. He is passionate about sustainable infrastructure and structural engineering, with a focus on using innovative, recycled materials in post-conflict and resettled zones. Growing up in a resource-constrained public school, he developed a strong resolve to change the narrative for regions like his, where basic infrastructure and social amenities were lacking. He has co-authored research on cultural sustainability and eco-friendly rehabilitation infrastructure, which he has presented at an international conference. He has led various community-driven initiatives, including zero hunger and quality education programmes for internally displaced persons, orphans, and rural communities. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, he is currently conducting a research in the Concrete Materials and Structural Integrity Research Unit (CoMSIRU) at the University of Cape Town, studying recycled aggregate concrete masonry units (bricks and blocks) particularly investigating the mix variables in relation to the performance specification to establish how mix variables govern strength response in recycled aggregate concrete masonry units, and to provide a quantitative foundation for reliable mix design frameworks in South Africa and other regions confronted with comparable contexts.
