Hilda Anekeya
South Africa & University of Cape Town, 2026 Anekeya is an educator with a Bachelor’s degree in Education Arts from the University of Nairobi. She is dedicated to building inclusive and equitable education systems that empower young people through mentorship, leadership development, and community driven interventions. Her commitment to educational equity led to the creation of the Mathari Library Project, which established a school library serving more than 2,000 learners at Mathari Primary, a slum school in Kenya. The initiative offers books, mentorship, and literacy programs, earning her the Innovation Award during the PACEmaker International Fellowship. She also founded For Impact, a mentorship program in her village that helps young people pursue education and expand their aspirations, inspired by her own experience as one of the few in her community to attend university. Anekeya is a strong advocate for mental health and wellness. She has hosted group therapy spaces for young professionals and runs Once Upon the Gutter, a storytelling podcast exploring life’s messy but meaningful moments. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, she will pursue a Master’s in Educational Policy and Management to advance transformative education reform across Africa.
