Ibrahim Tukur
Nigeria & University of Johannesburg, 2026 Ibrahim Tukur is an advocate for inclusive education and disability rights from Katsina State, Nigeria. He serves as Head Master of Dambo Tukur School for the Deaf, Special Assistant on Disability Affairs to a federal lawmaker, and Program Manager of the E2E Initiative, an NGO empowering persons with disabilities through education and skills development. Deaf since age eight due to meningitis, Ibrahim overcame discrimination and barriers to earn a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Sociology from Bayero University Kano in 2023, graduating with upper second-class honors. Motivated by his experiences, he has trained over 100 deaf individuals, youths, leaders, and teachers in Nigeria and Niger and organized sensitization programs in more than 20 rural communities to promote education for deaf children. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, Ibrahim will pursue a Master’s in inclusive education, career and life orientation, and psychology of education, aiming to strengthen guidance systems, enhance life skills, and support successful transitions for deaf learners into higher education and employment.
