Loveness Kimaro

Tanzania & University of Cape Town, 2024

Loveness Kimaro graduated recently as a medical doctor from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. She has an interest in Global Health with a particular interest in infectious and neglected tropical diseases. She is deeply committed to community service and utilizing her medical knowledge for community betterment. She volunteers for a youth-based NGO known as Tanzania Youth Alliance (TAYOA) that focuses on health awareness, particularly HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Loveness leads through empathy and active involvement. During her undergraduate studies, she was a project coordinator for TAMIDA, a project that aims to provide sexual and reproductive health education to Tanzanian youth. The project was able to reach and positively impact over 1,000 secondary school students. Her involvement there improved her skills in project management, time management and effective communication.

Loveness is also the CEO of Kitenge-based bags, a business she initiated to overcome financial constraints during her studies. This enterprise not only offered financial independence but also empowered adolescent girls and women involved in bag creation. Inspired by the community's transformation, Loveness aspires to launch an initiative that imparts entrepreneurial skills and health education to adolescent girls and vulnerable women.

During her free time, Loveness enjoys visiting friends and listening to inspirational podcasts. She loves travelling, meeting new people and writing health-related contents.
