Mercy Omondi
Kenya & University of Cape Town, 2026 Mercy holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Nairobi. She is passionate about storytelling and development to drive Africa’s progress. Her work is rooted in knowledge sharing, social justice and human connection. Her debut film, ‘Groans of the Wounded’, was screened at the Vuka Film Festival in Nairobi, winning Best Documentary Film Award. The film explores the intersecting challenges of poverty, discrimination and land ownership rights facing widows and orphans in Kapiyo Village along the shores of Lake Victoria. A champion for education, Mercy uses her story and platform to advocate for literacy and primary education for children in marginalized communities. She has also led initiatives focused on empowering adolescent girls and promoting sexual health and reproductive rights education in rural Kenya. She was honored with the Diana Award (2023) for her contributions and commitment to social change and community impact. Mercy will be pursuing a Masters Degree in Development Studies which she looks to apply alongside her skills in media production to push the continent forward, both in narrative and socioeconomic advancement. Mercy loves to travel, meeting new people, exploring different cultures and capturing the unique stories that each destination presents.
