Robert Pennington
Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) & University of Cape Town, 2026 Bobbie Pennington holds a BA in Economics and International Studies with a concentration in International Development from Macalester College, graduating magna cum laude with Honours in Economics. His research explores governance, economic growth, and social development, focusing on how data-driven policy and institutional design can enhance state capacity and inclusive growth. Professionally, he has worked across Sub-Saharan Africa and Washington, D.C., with organizations including USAID, UNDP, and the European Union, engaging in project implementation, business development, and applied research. A Davis UWC Scholar and award-winning leader, Bobbie has a track record of translating values into institutional change. At Waterford Kamhlaba, he founded youth and community organizations promoting social justice and environmental advocacy, and as Student Body President at Macalester College, he led governance reforms, equity initiatives in financial aid, and student representation restructuring. He has contributed to over a dozen strategic and advisory committees shaping policy from elections to social investments. Outside work, Bobbie enjoys tinkering with engines, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
