Ambrose Onapa

Uganda & University of Cape Town, 2026

Ambrose Onapa is a Ugandan engineer and multi-award-winning social entrepreneur from Apac, Northern Uganda. Growing up during the LRA civil war shaped his commitment to grassroots solutions that create sustainable livelihoods. He believes that lasting change comes from working with communities, not imposing solutions on them.

He co-founded TAL Youth Uganda, which equips young people and single mothers with practical skills in agribusiness and climate-resilient agriculture. TAL Youth tackles post-harvest losses by adding value to crops such as sweet potatoes, using simple technology to extend shelf life from four days to over 18 months, reducing farmers’ losses to zero. Ambrose also co-founded Cassavity in Sierra Leone, processing cassava into flour and connecting smallholder farmers to stable markets. Together, these initiatives have reached over 2,000 youth and 200 farmers.

Previously, Ambrose was a Senior Program Officer and Business Development Coach at StarHub Africa, supporting 1,000 youth-led businesses in Northern Uganda and achieving an average revenue growth of 45.8%. He holds a BSc in Telecommunications Engineering from Makerere University, is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar, and serves as a Fellow Council Member at The Resolution Project, focusing on empowering communities from within.
