Edgar Ochieng

Kenya & University of Cape Town, 2026

Edgar is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, holding a First Class LL.B from the University of Nairobi and currently completing an LLM in International Law. The loss of his mother to cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic instilled in him resilience and a lifelong drive for excellence.

Beyond law, Edgar is an award-winning essayist, mooter, and volunteer tutor. He has held leadership roles at JURIST Legal News, including Africa Chief of Staff—expanding the African team from one to over eight universities—and later Global Chief of Staff, earning the Greg Johnson Collaboration Award in 2024.

A lover of poetry and social impact, Edgar co-founded Ecojamii Climate Sustainability, a Kenyan enterprise focused on public health, migration governance, and climate advocacy.

As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, he aims to pursue Development Studies, combining his legal expertise, leadership experience, and commitment to social change to advance inclusive and sustainable development across Africa.
