George Karega

Kairu Karega holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies (Broadcast Journalism) from the University of Nairobi, where he graduated top of his class with first-class honors, Summa Cum Laude.

He is the Founder and Team Lead of Journalism and Media Opportunities, the world’s largest LinkedIn journalism community with more than 200,000 members, and a global newsletter reaching over 130,000 readers with access to media opportunities.

Kairu received the Wangari Maathai Young African Journalist Award 2024 and has been named among the Top 10 Exceptional Professionals in Media by The Iconic Brand Africa. He has collaborated with UNESCO, BBC, MESHA, and the African Centre for Media Excellence on projects focused on youth leadership, mental health, and digital storytelling.

He also teaches and mentors young people in storytelling, digital media, personal branding, and leadership. As a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, he will pursue a Master’s in Documentary Arts at the University of Cape Town to advance visual storytelling that amplifies underrepresented African voices.
