Mogomotsi Motshegwe

South Africa & University of Johannesburg, 2026

Mogomotsi Motshegwe is a South African youth leader, political scholar, and advocate for democratic transformation. He serves on the United Nations Population Fund Youth Advisory Panel, advising on youth participation in policy and program development. A 2023 Public Service Fellow at Futurelect and a 2020 Young African Leadership Initiative alumnus, Mogomotsi has also participated in the 2nd SADC Youth Parliament.

In 2023, he founded GenZ4Politics to increase political participation among South Africa’s Gen Z. His efforts in deepening democracy earned him the 2024 News24 Young Mandela Award and the 2023 Activate! Active Citizen Award. A skilled debater, he was runner-up in the 2025 National BRICS Debate Competition.

Mogomotsi’s research and writing focus on democracy, comparative politics, political economy, and inequality, contributing to public discourse and policy development. Beyond his professional work, he enjoys house music, long walks, reading, and approaching life with curiosity and enthusiasm, combining scholarship, activism, and personal growth in his mission to empower youth and strengthen democratic participation.
