Peter Kugunyi
Kenya & University of Pretoria, 2026 Peter holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Kenyatta University, Kenya. In his volunteering journey within the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) Kenya ecosystem, Peter has led student workshops, mentored young engineers and organised events focused on product design lifecycle, smart-cities applications and community innovation. His technical practice spans firmware development, designing PCBs, and deploying IoT systems for remote monitoring in energy, agriculture and community kitchens. Driven by a deep motivation to bridge technology and socio-economic upliftment, Peter is passionate about bringing clean, reliable and intelligent infrastructure to underserved communities. In his free time, Peter enjoys tea, watching movies, and comedy shows. Alongside friends, he enjoys board games and nature walks. As a Mandela Rhodes scholar, he will pursue a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in Power Electronics. Peter envisions a future where African engineers are at the forefront of home-grown innovation, and where technology becomes an enabler of equality, resilience and enterprise. He looks forward to connecting with like-minded peers, driving meaningful impact and helping shape a smarter and more inclusive continent.
